R&D presents LinkedTV solution at FIATIFTA World Conference

Last week, the FIAT/IFTA World Conference took place in Dubai; the annual key event for experts from the global television archives to learn about the latest developments and trends in their area. Johan Oomen of the Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision presented the LinkedTV project.

The presentation delved into the potential of SmartTV solutions for audiovisual archives. More and more consumers have connected TV devices at home, complemented by laptops or tablets which can function as “second screens”, e.g. to explore related objects (from the archives, and other online resources) alongside a TV programme. AV-archives are faced with the question how their preserved content could be (re-)used in this new context. Mr Oomen present a LinkedTV solution where, making use of innovative multimedia content analysis and enrichment, these new connected TV distribution platforms and the plethora of (often overlooked) AV-archive content can be dynamically interlinked.
