Ander Nieuws (Other News) is a research project by Sound & Vision and Geert Mul which investigates how large collections of digitized material can be presented in a way that contributes to the experience of the museum visitor. The project investigated how based on newly developed techniques correlations within news subjects can be made transparent.

The main outcome of the research project is the interactive installation designed together with media artist Geert Mul. Visitors of the interactive installation are immersed in video footage and thus experience the vastness of the digital archive. At the same time they see what new, often surprising, links between news images are presented by the algorithm.

A first prototype of this study was on view in the Sound & Vision exhibition Voorbij het Nieuws (Beyond the News), which opened on November 24, 2014. Based on feedback and user research a second prototype will be developed.

Ander Nieuws is a research project by Sound & Vision and Geert Mul supported by an advisory board consisting of: Centraal Museum, Huis voor Beeldcultuur, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Museum Of The Image and Nederlands Fotomuseum.

Ander Nieuws received financial support from Fonds 21 and the Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie.
