Sound & Vision Featured Archive

For the final year of the EUscreen project, the academic and critical website Critical Studies in Television has set up a ‘Featured Archive’ slot on its website, to showcase a different EUscreen partner archive each month. These features are written by the EUscreen content providers and provide an expert insight into the material held within their existing collections, their programme of digitisation and the history of their archive or broadcaster as well as including links to content hosted on the EUscreen portal.

The latest piece, written by Erwin Verbruggen and Evelien Wolda from Sound & Vision's R&D department, offers an insight into the Sound & Vision collections and can be viewed here: http://cstonline.tv/sound-and-vision. The article documents the Institute’s involvement in various digitisation and conservations projects including Images for the Future and showcases samples of the material contributed to EUscreen including episodes from the Willem Ruis Lotto show and Pippo the Clown.

The series began in January with a piece focussing on Czech Television and was followed by articles written by Slovenian Television and by the French National Audio Visual Institute (Ina). The series provides an insight into the world of the EUscreen content providers and allows them to showcase their archive material to students, researchers and academics within the field of television, film and cultural studies.

One of the key objectives of EUscreen is to encourage access and this series provides detailed information about collections of television material, which researchers may not have known even existed. As well as focussing on what is in the different archives, the series also allows researchers to explore the content themselves via the EUscreen portal
