Creative start-ups get a chance to pitch at international competition

In January of 2015, Sound & Vision joined the ACE Creative project to help creative start-ups in Europe expand their business. On the 17th and 18th december 2015 the Creative Business Cup took place at the KADK in Copenhagen, Denmark. Kelly Mostert took part in this event as part of the ACEAce Creative delegation, and gave feedback to starting entrepreneurs as to help them validate and contextualize their ideas within the creative industries.

What ACE Creative does

ACE Creative is an EU funded accelerator project to help creative start-ups in the ICT sector grow and get connected internationally. As part of the project, the ACE Creative consortium will help 100 start-ups (SME’s; small to medium enterprises) with customized support in the field of finance, business modelling, technology and networking. 15 promising SMEs were chosen to come pitch their innovative ideas during the Creative Business Cup in Copenhagen. Of these, two start-ups pitched in the final competition and won financial prizes to help get their ideas out to the market.

ACE Creative participants

There was a very diverse range of ideas and business models pitched at the event. In no particular order we will highlight some of the most interesting ideas:

  • Blitab, a tablet for blind people offering office, messaging and navigational apps
  • Inlifesize, a toolkit to create believable 3D human characters
  • Verticomics, a platform for comics on demand
  • PlayDXTR, tactile playing blocks that measure cognitive development of a child
  • Coda Rica, playful games for young children that have some coding elements

These five were selected as the most innovative of the Ace Creative Innovation Challenge that took place during the CBC. For a full list of CBC finalists and concepts, click here.

The rewards

ACE Creative offered a constructive environment for growing start-ups to get some advice and were given space to ask question, which many of the partaking SMEs found to be the most valuable aspect of the event. Furthermore the winner of the Ace Creative Innovation challenge will getgot a chance to pitch at the main high profile CBC event in front of investors, and a chance to win a comprehensive money prize.

What’s next for ACE Creative

The ACE Creative project will enter their second and final year of the project in January, where there is room for more start-ups to apply for support through the program. The consortium can provide support in the following 4 areas:

  1. Networking
  2. Financing
  3. Business Modelling
  4. Technology and IP advice

Furthermore ACE Creative will select a number of participants to join the CBC competition in 2017 in Copenhagen as well.
